I am 15 and am trying to get my name out there as a magician. I would love some ideas on what I can do to get my name throughout my area. I have been performing at a local Coffee Shop and have got business cards made for me to hand out there, but I would love ideas to help get me some shows. I don't have much of a clue how to get my name out there.
Thanks for the help,
Brandon M.

Hey Brandon, nice to meet you! My friend Chris, who is a super succesful magician, tells people to set a goal to write one new trick, every single day. By the end of a year, that's 365 tricks, and at least SOME of them have to be good, right? REMEMBER: writing is the basis of all wealth ;)

Thank you so much Scott :-) I was wondering, since you seem to have a creative mind. If you have any good ideas of ways for a magician to market himself :-)
Oh sorry I guess I should have posted this in the marketing section on this forum
thanks

Hey magicbymaddux,
Speaking as a MOM, you need to go to places where kids hang out (preferably with their parents) such as local parks and playgrounds.
Entertain the kids with a few simple tricks you can keep in your back pocket.
Make sure you carry your business cards with you and give one to every kid you entertain. It won't be long before those MOMs will be calling you to entertain at birthday parties, etc.
Good Luck!

Record yourself doing some and set up the video on you tube.
My kid searches for magic tricks on you tube. I can't hire you, but others may.

Here are some ideas:
1) Become active in forums or e-lists for people in your geographic area. Don't just send ads, participate in discussion and sign your notes "Brandon, Magician" and include your web site. You do have a web site, don't you? :)
2) Find small restaurants that have family nights, and pitch your services to them. I went to a local Mexican restaurant Saturday night, and they had a clown who does face painting. A magician would probably be welcome, too. Point: it's not just Chuck E. Cheese that has room for magicians - try everywhere!
3) Hit organizations. Do your parents have friends who belong to the Lions Club, or Tip-Toppers, or any organization at all? They almost all have banquets and conferences where they need entertainment.
4) Hit corporations. Most major corporations have an event planning department. Many have holiday parties, or picnics, or even sales meetings where they use unusual entertainment.
5) Make sure you're good. Ask everyone who has seen you for an evaluation. Any more, it's not enough to just do magic, you have to have an outgoing personality as well. Develop a good "patter" while doing your tricks to add to the entertainment.

Also...
6) Make all of your friends carry your cards as well. Just a few months ago, a friend of mine who is a lawyer gave me some of her cards. I wasn't going to take them, since I know where to find her if I ever need her services. She insisted, and the very next day, a co-worker asked me if I knew a good lawyer. Ta-da! Marketing that you don't have to do yourself!
